Making a Will

A Will is one of the most important legal documents you create in your life, yet approximately 25% of the UK population will die without leaving a Will.

Consider for a moment how the people you care for will be affected by your death. The last thing you would want them to have to deal with is financial uncertainty. By instructing the solicitors at Arnold Greenwood to draft your Will you can have peace of mind that the people you care about will be provided for after your death.

FAQs about Making a Will

Making a Will provides peace of mind; ensuring your assets are divided amongst those you wish to benefit and can also limit the amount of inheritance tax that must be paid and make distribution of your estate much easier.

If you die without a will, the Intestacy rules will decide who benefits from your estate. These are a fixed set of rules which act irrespective of your intentions. Problems can arise from the operation of these rules such as unmarried partners not receiving any inheritance and spouses or civil partners not automatically inheriting all of the estate from their loved ones.

It is advisable that every adult should write a Will. A Will is not just for passing on property and financial investments. If you have infant children you should make a Will naming legal guardians to care for your children after your death. Your Will also enables you to make proper financial provision for your children by using trusts to protect them whilst they are vulnerable and until they are mature enough to receive what can potentially be very large sums of money.

It can be a difficult time for the family following the death of a loved one and having a Will in place means there is one less thing to worry about. At Arnold Greenwood, your Will is only drafted by a qualified solicitor and employing a solicitor can help to avoid, or reduce, conflict by providing impartiality at an emotional time.

We are experienced in dealing with complex estates, nursing home fee advice, asset protection and inheritance tax planning issues, so you can be assured that our solicitors will deal competently and thoroughly with any issues arising.

By appointing a solicitor to write your Will, it is their responsibility to ensure that all the necessary legal requirements are complied with. It is also their responsibility to make sure your will is stored safely and at Arnold Greenwood we offer our will storage service free of charge.

We offer a fixed fee Will-writing service. For those with complex estates, or specific requirements that require detailed planning, we will provide a competitive quote for our expertise.

Once you have contacted us, we will send you our bespoke Will questionnaire to complete or consider. This will allow you to think about what you want in your Will at home, in your own time. After that, we will arrange meeting with a qualified and specialist solicitor to discuss your questionnaire and your Will instructions. Following this meeting, you will receive a draft will from the solicitor, which can be amended if necessary. Once the Will is ready to sign, you will have another meeting with the solicitor to review the draft Will and sign it.

Our friendly solicitors will guide you through the process. We understand that when making your Will, above all, you are seeking the comfort that comes from knowing your loved ones are secure and we will spend time with you to get to know your circumstances and advise you properly.
