Gedye & Sons Solicitors is joining Arnold Greenwood Solicitors

Gedye & Sons Solicitors will become part of Arnold Greenwood Solicitors on 1 October 2026.

This brings together two long-established Cumbrian law firms with strong local roots and a shared commitment to providing clear, practical advice and a high standard of personal service.

For most clients, very little will change. The Gedye & Sons team will join Arnold Greenwood and will continue to serve clients from Chancery House in Grange-over-Sands as well our London offices.

What does this mean for clients?

Our priority is to make the transition as straightforward as possible.

If you have an ongoing matter with Gedye & Sons, we expect it to continue to be handled by the same members of the team wherever possible. We do not anticipate any interruption to the progress of your matter.

By becoming part of Arnold Greenwood, clients will also benefit from access to a wider team of legal specialists and the additional resources available across the firm.

Will the Grange-over-Sands and London offices remain open?

Yes.

Following completion of the acquisition, Arnold Greenwood’s existing Grange legal practice will relocate to Chancery House. This will bring both teams together in one location, creating a single combined legal practice serving Grange-over-Sands and the surrounding area.

Chancery House will therefore remain an important local office, with a strengthened team providing legal services to individuals, families and businesses.

Our London Office will continue to operate as usual by Arnold Greenwood.

Will the person dealing with my matter change?

We expect clients to continue dealing with the same members of the Gedye & Sons team wherever possible.

If any change becomes necessary in relation to your matter, we will contact you directly and explain the arrangements.

You may continue to contact your usual adviser in the normal way.

What will happen to my ongoing matter?

It is intended that responsibility for ongoing Gedye & Sons matters will transfer to Arnold Greenwood Solicitors when the acquisition completes.

The teams are working together to ensure that matters continue to progress smoothly and that clients experience as little change as possible.

Clients with an ongoing matter will receive further information directly where appropriate.

What will happen to my file and personal information?

To allow Arnold Greenwood Solicitors to continue acting for clients following completion, relevant files and client information will transfer to Arnold Greenwood.

Arnold Greenwood Solicitors is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and is subject to professional duties concerning confidentiality, client care and the handling of client information.

Further information about the way Arnold Greenwood handles personal information will be available in its privacy notice and terms of business.

What will happen to deeds, wills and other documents held for safekeeping?

Any deeds, wills, powers of attorney or other documents currently held by Gedye & Sons in safe custody will transfer to Arnold Greenwood Solicitors and will continue to be stored securely.

There is no action you need to take.

Existing arrangements for storing, accessing and retrieving those documents will continue. If you need a document that we hold for you, please contact your usual adviser.

Will my fees change?

The acquisition will not, by itself, change the fees already agreed with you for an ongoing matter.

If any change to the work required or the estimated cost of your matter becomes necessary, you will be informed in the usual way before additional work is undertaken.

Arnold Greenwood will provide updated client care information or terms of business where this is required.

Do I have to continue with Arnold Greenwood?

No. The choice of solicitor remains entirely yours.

We very much hope that you will continue to instruct the team as part of Arnold Greenwood. However, if you do not want your matter or information to transfer, or if you would prefer to instruct another firm, please contact your usual Gedye & Sons adviser as soon as possible.

We will explain your options and assist with any arrangements that may be necessary, subject to any outstanding costs and the particular requirements of your matter.

Do I need to do anything?

In most cases, no action is required.

If you have a live matter, we will contact you directly if we need any information, instructions or documentation from you.

If you have concerns about the transfer of your matter, file or information, please contact your usual adviser so that these can be discussed with you.
